With Heather’s revelation that she can actually race without training and the fact that my form is coming around, we’ve been toying with the idea of doing the 170 mile Tour de Park City next weekend. So before we register, we wanted to confirm we have the endurance for it. So today we did a long ride today with a few of our friends.
We left at 6:30 AM and rode west out to Middleton, then north to Hamilton Corner, east through Emmett and finally up Horseshoe Bend Hill. The entire loop is just shy of 100 miles. It was a great workout and Heather and I worked it pretty hard, especially up the Old Horseshoe Bend Hill Road. Heather hung with me until the halfway point and then I picked it up and rode my best time of the year.
But it’s a good thing I train with a power meter as it really wasn’t a PR, as my wattage was lower than when I rode it two weeks ago. Today we were helped by a pretty decent tailwind. Still, I gave it my all and my legs were thrashed during final few miles back to Eagle. It was the toughest ride of the year and I definitely felt it when I got home. Plan is to ride Bogus tomorrow. If we survive this weekend, we’ll be heading to Park City next weekend!
