We rode with the Master’s 50+. We had 8 women: Kris Walker, Jeanne Rumps, and Sima Trapp (all Bob’s), Lynn Stott, Sarah Tillotson, a Vela Bella girl, Loren and me. The master’s pushed it on the way out on South Slope Rd. I went to the front and pushed it up El Paso, which whittled the group down. I did a few more attacks. When we turned onto Dobbie, I attacked up the hill and got off with Kris, but she wouldn’t work. I attacked up the next hill and got off by myself. We had a lead moto, but he missed the turn. We went to the end of Dobbie and realized we missed the turn. We had to turn around and head back. Jeanne and Kris and two Masters went down Sand Hallow and we waited for them to catch us.
We finally saw the right turn, because a group was coming towards us. Then we made the turn and continued the race. The detour was so long that the people we dropped went the right way and ended up winning. I attacked a few times on El Paso. I was off with Jeanne on the descent. I tried attacking her several times because she wouldn’t work. Then we got caught by Kris and Lynn; we dropped all the master’s men. Kris attacked. I attacked to bridge up to her but didn’t make it. Lynn caught me and sat up. I told her I wasn’t first and she said she knew that. I put on my brakes to make Lynn and Jeanne go by me. Lynn then attacked. I got on behind Jeanne. Lynn took us up to Kris.
As soon as we caught, Jeanne attacked. I went with her. I pulled through and she wouldn’t work. I asked why she attacked if she wasn’t going to work. She said something I didn’t understand, so I attacked her and got off solo. I put it into TT mode and made it hurt the rest of the way on South Slope and up Old Freeze Out. I finished 2nd (dropped Vela Bella rider who went the correct way won), Kris was 2nd, and Lynn 3rd. It was interesting passing all the “dropped” riders from our pack on South Slope. You could hear their confusion as I blew by them and they realized I should have been ahead of them already. Luckily this moto lead wrong turn fiasco didn’t cost anyone their series placings.
