After an easy workout yesterday, today I went out with Ted and did a hard Emmett-Horseshoe Bend loop. For the first part of the ride I rode in high level 3, low level 4. Then we did a two-person time trial through Black Canyon. Ted was riding strong, so he ended up taking longer pulls, but I was still working it in the draft, then going into VO2/Level 5 during my pulls. My average power for that section was only 280 watts, but since we were rotating, it’s probably better to look at normalized power (NP) which was a respectable 296 watts.
We had a brief stop in Horseshoe Bend, then headed up the old road. I didn’t start pushing it until the cattle guard, when I hit my interval timer. I started the hill at a high tempo pace, but worked my way to my threshold. I kept the pressure on to the top to finish with an average power of 298 watts for a time of 26:26. Not bad, considering all the prior work before hitting the hill. We kept the pressure on until Eagle and then finally I spun easy home along with five minutes on the rollers as my cool-down. It was another tough workout at 224 TSS and .87 IF. Just barely easier as Tuesday’s workout, but with residual fatigue in my legs it felt much harder.
