The Bogus Basin Hill Climb is the final event of the year in Boise. It attracts a lot of racers and recreational cyclists. Since it is a hill climb, you can gauge your improvements from year to year by the time to the top. The race starts at the bottom of Bogus Basin Rd at the elementary school and finishes 18 miles later at Bogus Basin Ski Resort.
Due to my surgery, I was a spectator this year. I leapfrogged along with the race, so I could see what was happening and cheer Uhl on. There was a big group for a while. It came down to a front group of five, a chase group of six, another group of two, and Uhl’s group of five. It came down to a sprint finish, which Shawn Mitchell won, Matt Weyen 2nd, Johny Osguthorpe 3rd, Kelly Williamson 4th, and Travis Armstrong 5th. Eric Rumps won the sprint from the next group for 6th place. Uhl didn’t jump hard enough for his sprint, and Chris McGill came around him for 14th place and Uhl got 15th. After the race, Uhl was mad that he didn’t jump harder to win 14th. However, Uhl beat his last year’s time by 75 seconds.
