On the drive down we noticed a thick black plume of smoke rising up from Salt Lake City as we were going through Bountiful. Heather thought it was a forest fire, but the smoke seemed too dark. Most forest fires I’ve seen have a gray, tan smoke. As we were listening to the radio we heard a DJ mention that yes, there was some kind of fire, but he knew nothing about it. When we got closer, it became apparent that this was one huge fire! Unfortunately, taking pictures from the freeway didn’t work so well, but I think you can get the idea from this shot. The next day we learned that it was a large warehouse that burnt down and it was situated next to a fireworks production plant so there were over 100 firefighters trying to contain it. When we went by it on Sunday morning (two days later) it was still smoking!
