Tonight I raced in the Wells Fargo Twilight Criterium (aka, Boise Twilight Crit). This was the first time I raced with the Pro/1/2’s. Since this was just training for me, I only had three goals for the race: 1) don’t crash, 2) finish with the pack, and 3) come through the start/finish line in front…just once.
Well, two out of three ain’t bad. I didn’t crash and I essentially finished with the group (even though the “group” was breaking up with two laps to go). As for the third goal…the one time I put a major effort in on the backstretch I got towards the front and realized that I could do it if I pushed it through turns 3 and 4. So I did and I came out of the last corner in front. Unfortunately, when I looked up the road, there was already a break of three riders off! Needless to say, I totally wasted myself moving up in only half a lap that I fell straight back to the tail of the pack and stayed there the rest of the race. Oh well, it was definitely good, fast training.
