Today I rode the Foothill-Purple Sage-Firebird Loop. I wanted to do a solid tempo effort so after 15 minutes of Level 2, I started my interval timer and kicked it up to Level 3/Tempo. The weather was awesome with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 50’s. As I headed out I had mostly a cross/tailwind. It was easy to keep my power up and once I jumped up to to Purple Sage and started heading back, I felt even better and could put down some serious power with a low perceived exertion. I love it when that happens!
By the time I was on Chaparral, I was cranking out 290-300 watts without really thinking about it! At first I thought maybe my PowerTap wasn’t zero’d, but I confirmed it was fine once I donloaded the ride. I ended my 1-hour “tempo” interval on the descent down Hwy 16 and then spun home in L2. Both my average and norm power for the interval was in Level 4, so it really was an LT interval…cool! It has been a while since I felt that good on a ride. Hopefully, this is a sign of good things to come!
