Eagle, ID — Thursday was a lethargic day for me. The long ride on Wednesday really sapped my energy so I just spun on my PowerCranks and then hit the gym for some extra cardio work. Today I felt much better, but my morning stats showed I was still recovering.
In the morning I went to the gym. I started with a half hour swim. I really like swimming as a “recovery” workout. It’s non-impact and works the upper body aerobically. It also seems to help flexibility, I always feel so much more limber after a good swim. After the swim I did a Pilates class. Since it had been a couple weeks since I last did Pilates, my muscles were hurting at times. After that I did elliptical for half an hour and then lifted.
Finally, tonight I got on the trainer with the grand idea of doing some VO2 intervals. I started with two 5-minute intervals. My legs were really burning and my power was pathetic…the numbers were closer to my FT power than VO2. After the second one I just bagged that idea and did sprints instead. I like complementing lifting legs with on-the-bike power work the same day. The sprints were OK, but it’s hard to generate much power while seated on a trainer. Plus I was using the PowerCranks, which I’m still readjusting to after the couple weeks of not riding them while in Phoenix.
While I do still feel fatigued, I don’t feel overly so. There’s a fine line between over-reaching and over-training. Being in the middle of my Build 1 phase, I think what I am feeling is more of the former and not the latter.
