We drove to Redlands, CA on June 13th. Since I was sick, we decided not to stay in our host homes, so I wouldn’t infect my teammates. We searched and found the GuestHouse hotel in San Bernardino. The managers were really nice. The best part for me was being away from the action in Redlands. I needed to remain calm until race day. The hotel had a microwave and a refrigerator, so we could eat in the hotel. Rick Gagnon, manager of Team Basis at the trials and one of our host homes, lent us a George Forman grill to use. It is amazing what you can do with that grill. The one lesson we learned from staying at the hotel is you NEVER want to be in the room next to the ice machine. The first night we had a room directly across from the ice machine. We didn’t notice it until we were in bed. Then we heard the ice machine do its thing every 30 minutes. We couldn’t figure out who would be getting ice at 2:30 am, but it turned out to just be the ice machine.
